My name is Fernando Santos, and I’m a landscape photographer from Portugal. After many years away, I rediscovered photography as a way to find silence, stillness, and beauty in nature.

I first discovered photography as a teenager, thanks to my sister, who worked in a photo lab at the time — back when people still dropped off rolls of film to be developed and printed. She gave me a second-hand Canon T50, which I soon replaced with a brand new Nikon F-601, marveling at the magic of autofocus.

But as the years went by, I drifted away. Digital photography was becoming popular, and I couldn’t afford the cost of upgrading camera and lenses. Life took over, and for more than 20 years I hardly thought about photography.

That changed about six years ago (2019), during a visit to the stunning Serra da Estrela — the country’s highest mountain. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, I felt a longing to capture their beauty. That moment reignited my passion. Snapshots with a phone just weren’t enough. When I returned home, I spent weeks researching cameras. Mirrorless technology had just arrived, and it was clear that it was the future. I bought the Nikon Z6 II, and five years later it’s still the camera I love working with.

Today, my heart continues to lie in landscape photography: foggy forests, rivers, seascapes, scenes that ground me in stillness and wonder. Of course, sometimes I end up running like a headless chicken to catch the right composition before the light disappears, but who hasn’t?

The purpose of this site is simple: to share my photos and my passion — a personal corner where I can show my work without relying entirely on social media.
Through it, I invite you to explore my photographs and experience the beauty of Portugal’s nature and landscapes through my eyes.
